Many ski areas join up to form ever larger networks or expand their areas with new lifts and pistes. But the small ski resorts also have their charm. They are normally ideal for taking those first swings yet also offer ambitious skiers a challenging downhill run or two. Together with Skigebiete-Test.de, the best ski areas up to 40 piste kilometres in Austria were chosen.
Place 8 in the rankings went to Axamer Lizum. The downhill runs marked blue all end at the same lower terminus, which is why beginners can expect particularly trouble-free skiing fun here. As most pistes in the ski area are marked red, advanced skiers are spoilt for choice. Leisure carvers in particular will enjoy the wide downhill runs. And for all those who long for some partying after their skiing fun, the vicinity to the town of Innsbruck is a further bonus.
