Hochtennbodensteig Hike

Hiking at the foot of the Kalkkögel - the "Dolomites of North Tyrol"

Tiroler_Bergwegeguetesiegel

The Hochtennbodensteig is a popular and impressive walk at the foot of the Kalkkögel - from the top of the Birgitzköpfl lift to the Hoadl.

The varied trail winds through the high alpine terrain of the Kalkkögel and across idyllic mountain meadows, sometimes climbing gently, sometimes more steeply. There are plenty of opportunities to rest or descend. You will also cross some gravel paths, so sturdy footwear and sure-footedness are essential!

From the top station of the Birgitzköpf lift at 2,035m, head towards Halsl at 1,992m - from there the trail climbs to the plateau below the Schneiderspitze. A short detour to the summit cross at 2,156m is well worth it! After a short descent and crossing of a gravel road, the trail continues to the Widdersberg saddle at 2,262m. Great views of the Herzlteich pond! It takes about 10 minutes to reach the top of Widdersberg.

After the Widdersbergsattel you cross another gravel road and after a short but steep climb you reach the Hochtennboden at 2,365m - an almost flat grassy area of several thousand square metres that invites you to play. There are comfortable seats and tables for a rest.

One last short descent to the Hoadlsattel at 2,264m and then up to the sunny Hoadl plateau at 2,340m. A well-deserved stop for delicious food and drink on the sun terrace of the Hoadlhaus is a must before the descent on the Hoadl cable car.

- Full route: 490 metres up + 220 metres down
- Length of trail: 6.5 km
- Walking time: approx. 3 hours

It is also possible to start from the Hoadl House - same route - descent with the Birgitzköpfl lift.
